Bentley 8-Litre Barker Boat Tail Tourer

This is a unique Barker Boat Tail Tourer bodied short chassis 8-Litre, which is just one of 21 chassis equipped with an open coach work. It is also one of just six short chassis 8-Litres to have survived. It is pictured here, after restoration, at the 2005 Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance. (Photographs by Wouter Melissen)

RROC Yosemite Inter Regional Hill Climb Meet, 1999

YR5099 (1931 8-Litre Barker boat-tail tourer) Owner: F. Miller
"From his home in Scotland the original owner, Sir P. Malcolm Stewart, ordered this '31 8 liter boattail tourer to add to his impressive collection of motorcars. YR5099 was very similar to the Speed Six that was built for the 1930 Olympia Car Show. At some point the car was converted to a drophead coupe and it wasn't until sometime in the 70's and early 80's that it was restored by James McHarg to its original splendor. Teardrop front wings cleanly point toward the pontoon-style running boards, making a very stylish art deco tourer." — From the article 'Ultimate Hill Climb: Yosemite Inter-Regional', Text by Martin Mayer, CA and photos By Harold Pope, CA& Richard Murray, CA

"YR5099 is Frank Miller's 8 litre with boat tail body by Barker; the coachbuilder's only 8 litre version of their Speed Six body. This splendid car came in second in class." — From the article 'The Perfect 36: 1987 National Meet, Long Beach, California', by Phil Brooks

Chassis YR5099

Having removed a non-standard four door tourer body, the original two seater Boatail coachwork was recreated from just one archive picture.

A very interesting body featuring hinged tonneau panel and disappearing hood, Dickey seat and lift-up tail section revealing the spare wheel stowage.
