This photograph is from an advertisement by Gerry Potter in "Thoroughbred & Classic Cars" magazine, April 1980.

Text in advt says: 4-litre Bentley by Gurney Nutting, and is one of the most important vintage cars to come to light for some years. Illustrated in the lower picture of Johnnie Green's book "Fifty Years of the Marque". Features include running-board-mounted trunks. Grabel headlamps and spotlight, helmet wings, fishing-rod holder and so on. The car is original in every detail.

(Note by Robert McLellan: Stanley Mann had this car for sale a couple of years ago. Gurney Nutting body. 4½ litre. — July 31, 2008)

"Sadly my dad David Horner passed away last year and we owned JK 221 from approximately 1975ish to 1979/80ish. My dad ran Wardlow's Taxis in Driffield East Yorkshire and the Bentley was very much used as a family and community car. Many of the photos show myself, my sister and Sandy (the dog) playing in the car. It was used during a procession in Driffield for the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

He paid approximately £12000 for the car and cried the day it was sold — it was extremly precious to him.

I found this site the night before my dad's funeral and cannot say what comfort I gained knowing JK 221 is still on the go."

I would really love to hear from current owner of JK 221.

~~

My father also had links to other Bentleys — YP 7937 owned by Paul Bentley from 1972 and has a receipt from 1967 for a partly dismantled 3 litre Bentley Reg: AX 4139 (£150).
