1928 Bentley 6½ Litre ST3 Saloon (Weymann)
Chassis No. MD2474
Engine No. FA2502 / WT2264
Registration No. HS 5148
1928 Vintage WO Bentley 6½ litre Tourer with C-type Gearbox
Original matching number chassis to the original registration number and axles.
Not many WO Bentleys still have their original bodies, this being no exception — but what a stunning car, enjoyed for 3 years now — and goes like it should.
During restoration, we believe at The Vicarage, Goring on Thames, a new fabric tourer body was fitted on its 11.0' chassis sometime in the 1980s, together with a replacement and correct 6 1/2 litre engine.
There is a Speed 6 camshaft to go with the car, recently replaced with a standard 6 1/2 camshaft for smoother running — and a small improvement of fuel economy!
This car has conveyed us to the continent effortlessly, providing wonderful holidays, but we now wish to visit our adult children with their families, living in distant lands in the Summer instead...
£53,000 spent since 2010, including:
New 3:1 Crownwheel and Pinion fitted
New radiator by Vintage Radiators
Engine top overhaul
New pistons
Magneto and distributor rebuilt
New double shock absorbers
White metal checked
Crankshaft overhauled and crack tested
New Le Mans fuel tank
New wheels and tyres
Rear springs re-set
New AutoVac fitted
New stainless steel silencer fitted this month — August 2013 — so a quieter and more relaxing drive for long distances.
Choice of 3 fuel feed options : Twin SU electric / Autovac / Hand pump from dashboard
Spare restored Speed 6 radiator available by separate negotiation.
Best come and have a look. If you've set your heart on a big "W.O." this is it. it has super long legs and is so much more rewarding than a 4 1/2!
Prefer straight sale but might consider a smaller capacity W.O. with cash.
This car is for sale as of Oct 4, 2013.
E-mail received from car owner Charles Leith on Feb 19, 2014: "Price just reduced to match offers received pre-Christmas from now suited enquirers."

Dear Mr McLellan, two matters of urgency:
There are two incorrect entries on your chassis MD2474 page:
1) Wrong engine number. The engine quoted was discarded in 1938 as it blew up
2) You state "Parts used to make a new chassis"*. Not so, NONE of the Julian Ghosh new chassis made have numbers on them - I met him face to face this week. The car you list has a chassis number and is definitely NOT a new chassis. He worked on that chassis but did NOT renew it.
* This information is from Michael Hay's book, Bentley: The Vintage Years, 1997 - VintageBentleys.org
Point 1
Please note the car lost the original engine, number FA2502, in 1938 due to engine failure following much trouble with that unit and gained engine number WT2264 -- that car last heard of... in 1938. Reference is made to this fact at the Bonhams sale at Goodwood in 2007, where the correct engine number is referred to.
Point 2
Mr Hay is also quite incorrect to state "Parts used to make a new chassis"
I went to meet Julian Ghosh who makes Bentley chassis last week — so serious is the above allegation — a friend of mine and former VSCC president — categorically — he told me "has never and will never mark any chassis with a chassis number of any sort".
If the car had a new chassis, it would not be marked. Please see photo above of the original chassis number which is on the car as I write, and has been since new. Bonhams sale catalogue at Goodwood in 2007 makes no reference to a new chassis.
These errors have already put off a continental buyer, and who knows who else who may have seen or rely on your data to guide them in buying what are currently very expensive cars.
As a former consultant to Bonhams Motor Car dept and involved from time to time with these situations, I take these matters extremely seriously especially when there is no doubt and the correct information is so easy to see and qualify.
If you are unhappy stating what is fact then please would you delete the reference quoted from Mr Hay immediately as it is simply not true. Likewise would you please correct the engine number?
I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks for your time.
