1928 Bentley 4½ Litre 4-seater
Chassis No. KM3091
Engine No. KM3090
Registration No. YV 9486
1928 Bentley 4½ Litre Vanden Plas Tourer
Registration No. YV 9486; Chassis No. KM3091; Engine No. XF3514
Engine: four cylinder in line, water-cooled monobloc, single overhead camshaft, bore 100 mm, stroke 140 mm, capacity 4,398 cc. Four speed gearbox, right hand change; cone clutch; spiral bevel Back axle. Semi-elliptic leaf springs front and rear. Wheelbase 10 ft 10 in. Tyres 5.00 X 21 in front, 6.00 x 21 in rear.
A happy blend of the 3 litre car and the Silent Six created the legendary 4½ Litre Bentley which made its debut in 1927. The versatility of the car was remarkable as it displayed qualities of flexibility when married to formal saloon coachwork, however with sporting coachwork continued Bentley's competition record, most notably at Le Mans, where the 4½ Litre car made an inauspicious debut in 1927, leading the way into the "White House" crash. Later efforts were more successful and the racing involvement assisted both the development and marketing of the car.
The Vanden Plas tourer was perhaps the most popular of body styles and this fabric bodied car is a particularly fine example. The coachwork is finished in traditional British Racing Green livery with chromium plated fittings. The seats are upholstered in green leather with matching green carpets. The car is equipped with Vanden Plas three piece windscreen, double duck weather equipment including sidescreens, rear mounted spare wheel and running board mounted tool and battery boxes. The engine is fitted with twin S.U. "Sloper" carburettors. The car has been maintained to a good standard by Messrs Hoffman and Mountford and has been in regular use.
It is offered with a recent MoT certificate, road fund licence to January 1989 and a Swansea V.5 registration document.
