"As a young man I helped rebuild this car, which was then sold to a buyer in the US. The car when it left UK was registered KYR 31. Through the BDC in the UK I have ascertained the chassis number which enabled me to locate the car on your website, with lo and behold a photograph. As you will see from the attached letter from the BDC, parts of the car were originally used on the Brooklands Fire Tender, I hope this information may be of interest to the current owners. I would be fascinated to learn if the car is still in use."

Adrian West received the following information from the WO Bentley Memorial Foundation on Feb 2, 2012:

"Thank you for the e-mail and enquiry on KYR 31. This is an interesting history as 2 cars are involved. Mr Herbert John Russell of Castle Bromwich first joined the BDC in Jan 1948 and then re-joined in November 1952 with a 3 Litre chassis
AH 1478. However he is recorded as owning a 4½ Litre chassis KL 3589 manufactured in January 1930. This had engine number NT 3146 which was originally in another 4½ Litre. In Hay's book of the Vintage Bentley it is recorded that chassis KL 3589 (originally reg UW 7771) was re-registered KYR 31 and has a cross member numbered 876. This cross member is from a 3 Litre (chassis number 876) from October 1924. This car (chassis 876) is believed to have been broken up and parts found their way into chassis KL 3589. Chassis 876 was used as a fire tender at Brooklands from around 1934 until 1939. It (chassis 876) is known to have been in existence in 1953 in Camberley Surrey. I attach a picture of chassis 876 at Brooklands.

Regarding KYR 31 that was in the Club in the USA for many years but is currently not registered with us so I do not know of its whereabouts.
