"My father is moving house and was sorting through his old photos and found some very nice black and white photos of a 3 litre he came across at the side of the road in the late 80's early 90's. being an ex r.c. moss employee he showed them to me. there is a very nice front drivers side 3/4 shot and a rear drivers side 3/4. would these be of interest to you..."

"In 1950-57 this car was owned by Mr K.W. (Bill) Adams) for whom I am submtting this information. When Bill owned the car, being an engineer he rebuilt the engine with all new bearings. Made new gears for the camshaft and mag drive. The mag drive gears were worn to an knife edge at this time. He also replaced the small gear in the diff. All of these parts Bill made him self. Bill also made new wings and re-trimed the interior in red. The body at this time was clad in aluminum and painted black.

Bill would like to see YK 2473 again if this is possible."

("Bill has now retired but still working in engineering. Making the finest clocks to his own designs.")

1925 Bentley 3-Litre Short-Chassis Speed Model Four-Seater
Reg. No. YK 2473 Chassis No. 1064 Engine No. 1094

Engine, four-cylinder, overhead-camshaft, monobloc, bore 80mm., stroke 149mm., capacity 2,996 c.c.: dual magneto ignition: four-speed gearbox, right-hand change: spiral bevel final drive: footbrake on four wheels, handbrake on rear wheels: suspension semi-elliptic front and rear: wheelbase 9ft. 9 1/2in.: tyre size 5.25/6.00 x 20: price new in England, £1,125.

This is an example of the most famous of the 3-litre Bentleys, the short-chassis Speed Model, better known as the Red Label. It carries four-seater open sports coachwork in the classic idiom, with hood, single-panel screen, and rear-mounted spare wheel. There are flared wings and full-length running-boards, and the handbrake lever is mounted outside the body.

Though the style of the body is essentially that of Vanden Plas, the coachbuilder is not known. It is, however, believed to be original in all essentials, since it was on the car in a very rough state when the vehicle came into the hands of the present owner some six years ago. It has been professionally rebuilt, and recovered in vinyl in place of the original leather fabric. The wings, however, are known to be non-original. No modifications have been made to the mechanical specification, though the car has been rebuilt throughout. Condition is described as excellent, and commensurate with a total mileage of only 800-odd since the completion of all this work.
